Following a series of selection interviews, four eleven year olds ( Andrew Fish, Christine Priestley, John Beaumont, and Rosemary Holland) and a young responsible adult (Geoff Ableson) were selected to go on an adventure which would influence them for the rest of their lives. They were selected to go for a month to the CISV summer camp in Urbana Ohio. Flying, in 1968, was generally for the well-heeled – so this was seen as very exciting to travel such a vast distance to another continent. Also, flights were not as direct as they are today – these were prop aircraft and not the current jet engine! The flight out involved stops at Luxembourg, Iceland, and New York before finally touching down in Dayton Ohio.
We have set this website up to share with you all the mementos and memories we have of that time, please click on the menus at the top or the bottom of the page to browse through the pictures and documents.
